1. Who we are

HailNearMe.com is operated by Harper AI, Inc. ("Harper AI," "we," "us"), a corporation incorporated in the State of California and headquartered in San Francisco, California. HailNearMe is a product of the StormSnipe platform.

Questions about this policy can be directed to support@stormsnipe.com.

2. What we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Address lookups. When you enter an address to check for hail, we geocode it to coordinates and run a spatial query. The address input may be retained in analytics systems to improve detection coverage and understand storm impact patterns.
  • Email addresses. If you purchase a report, request an inspection, or submit a spotter report, we collect your email address to fulfill the transaction or verification process.
  • Location data. When you provide a location – by entering an address or submitting a spotter report – we collect and process that location as part of the service. We do not request or access your device's GPS location independently.
  • Photos. Spotter reports require a photo taken at the time of the event. Submitted photos are retained as part of the ground-truth storm record and may be displayed publicly on storm event pages.
  • Purchase records. When you purchase a NOAA Radar Evidence Report, we retain a record of the transaction (date, amount, report reference number) for accounting and legal purposes. Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe; we do not receive or store card numbers or payment credentials.
  • Usage data. We collect standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps) for security and service improvement purposes.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and improve the HailNearMe service
  • Fulfill report purchases and send purchase receipts
  • Verify spotter submissions and issue promo codes to verified spotters
  • Connect you with licensed roofing contractors in the StormSnipe network, but only where you have explicitly requested an inspection or indicated interest
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of the storm record database
  • Comply with applicable law

4. What we do not do

We do not sell your personal information. Harper AI, Inc. does not sell, rent, or trade personal information to third-party advertisers or data brokers. This applies to all residents, including California residents under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

We do not share your email address with contractors unless you have explicitly submitted an inspection request or consented to contractor contact through the service.

5. Data retention

Address lookups may be retained in analytics systems to improve storm coverage models and understand usage patterns.

Spotter submissions (location, hail size, photo, email) are retained as part of the permanent storm record. Approved submissions become part of the public ground-truth dataset. You may request deletion of your submission (see Section 6).

Email addresses collected for report purchases or inspection requests are retained for transactional and legal purposes. You may request deletion at any time, subject to our legal obligations to retain transaction records.

6. California privacy rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • Right to know. You may request a summary of the personal information we have collected about you in the past 12 months, including the categories of data, sources, purposes, and third parties it has been shared with.
  • Right to delete. You may request that we delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions (e.g., where retention is required to complete a transaction or comply with law).
  • Right to opt out of sale. We do not sell personal information. No opt-out action is required.
  • Right to non-discrimination. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.

To exercise these rights, email us at support@stormsnipe.com with the subject line "Privacy Request." We will respond within 45 days as required by law.

7. Cookies and tracking

HailNearMe uses cookies and similar technologies for session management and analytics. We use analytics tools to understand aggregate usage patterns. These tools may set cookies on your device. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features of the service may not function correctly without them.

We do not use cookies for cross-site behavioral advertising.

8. Third-party service providers

We use third-party service providers for hosting, payment processing, mapping, and analytics. These providers may process personal data on our behalf and are contractually required to handle it in accordance with applicable law. They are not permitted to use your data for their own marketing purposes.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the service after a material change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify users via email or a prominent notice on the site.
